Distinctive Stainless Flatware

Selecting Your Sterling Silver or Stainless Steel Flatware

Sterling silver or stainless steel flatware is one of the first things we touch in the morning, and an important contributor to our enjoyment of the meals we share. Each piece should feel comfortable in your hand, as well as being a beautiful visual accent for your table. Sterling silver has always been prized for its beauty and touch, although it should be used, hand washed and kept in an airtight, cool place. If you select stainless steel flatware, look for the grade of metal: 18/10 or 18/8. This refers to the percent of nickel to chrome. 18/10 with 10% nickel will keep its sheen longer, is more stain resistant and will better resist pitting or discoloration. A knife blade of forged steel can improve performance.
