Greg Benson and Jeff Taly of Loll Designs have taken the time-tested shape of the Adirondack Chair and made it out of 100% recycled polyethylene. They estimate that eight recycled milk jugs go into each pound of this Rocker, which is also 100% recyclable. But this material goes beyond the eco-conscious. Its durability is proven: Before creating outdoor furnishings, the team at Loll used the same material to create skateboard parks. It is Loll’s philosophy that “using green products should not mean you have to sacrifice anything; it should be better in every way than its non-eco-friendly counterpart.” Made in U.S.A.

Brown Jordan Outdoor Furniture

Designer Walter Lamb was experimenting with bronze and copper tubing salvaged from sunken naval ships at Pearl Harbor when he created the prototype for his iconic outdoor collection (1940s). Today the pieces are crafted from weatherproof brass that will develop a rich patina over time (or it can be polished to return the surface to its original luster). Sol y Luna (1954) is an adaptation of Dan Johnson’s Gazelle Collection, which was originally offered in wood or bronze, both with woven caning for the seat and back. However, due to the high cost of production, and the intense hand labor involved, fewer than 150 pieces from the Gazelle line were ever produced. Now made in durable cast aluminum by outdoor manufacturer Brown Jordan, the design maintains Johnson’s comfortable organic form. Made in Mexico

VKG Terrace Collection

The Terrace Collection (1939) is the work of Hendrik Van Keppel and Taylor Green (VKG), a design team who “set the standard for stylish patios and poolside cabanas,” wrote the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Their designs represent the essence of Southern California living and were used in the majority of the Case Study houses, specifically Case Study 22, which was furnished entirely by VKG. DWR collaborated with manufacturer Brown Jordan, the license-holder for VKG products, to bring this collection back into production.
